Culverts & approaches
Keep Water Moving Under Your Driveway
A culvert that is crushed, rusted through, plugged or too small backs water up the ditch, floods the approach and washes out the driveway. A missing culvert turns every spring melt into a problem.
We install new culverts, replace failed ones and repair approaches that have washed out or settled. We set the culvert at the right grade so water actually flows through it, backfill and compact around it, and rebuild the driveway or approach on top.
Signs your culvert needs work
- Water ponding on one side of the driveway
- Crushed, rusted or separated pipe ends
- Culvert full of silt or debris
- Approach sinking or washing out each spring
- Ice build-up across the driveway in winter

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a permit for a driveway culvert?
Culverts in a municipal ditch usually need approval from your municipality or RM, and they may set the size and material. Check with them before work starts and we can help with the details they ask for.
What size culvert do I need?
It depends on how much water the ditch carries. Your municipality may specify it. Otherwise we size it to match the ditch and the neighbouring crossings.
Can you repair a culvert instead of replacing it?
Sometimes. Crushed ends can often be cut back or extended and plugged culverts cleaned out. If the pipe has failed along its length, replacement is usually the better value.
Do you rebuild the driveway over the culvert?
Yes. We backfill and compact around the new culvert and rebuild the approach with gravel so it is ready to drive on.
